Muthuswami dikshitar one of the doyens of karnatik music, known for structured musical quality and the literary weight of his compositions is the composer of this wonderful piece on Angaraka or Lord Mars.

Lets ignore all eulogies in the composition for the time being and take cognizance of these words "Bhoomi kumaram", "Raktangam", "Raktambaraa", "Rakta-netram", "Dharani pradam".

Also look at the Wikipedia description of Mars.

"Mars is a terrestrial planet with a thin atmosphere, having surface features reminiscent both of the impact craters of the Moon and the volcanoes, valleys, deserts and polar ice caps of Earth. "

May be I am becoming too much of a psuedo scientist. :)

Listen to MMI's rendition of the same here though.
